Had to quit early today, the wind just got to be a little too much to handle. Couldn't get a slow enough drift with both the drift sock and trolling motor to fish very effectively. During one high speed drift between The Sisters a nice 21 inch Trout nailed a jerk bait. Caught a 17 incher in the same area earlier, also on the jerk bait. Really beginning to like the Trokar hooks. Only lost one fish on it today, and that was my fault for putting too much pressure on a Trout. Using a rootbeer, gold flake plastic.
Didn't spend too much time on the Trout today a few small ones on the dark patches of grass off of the spoil islands. When the big shiny orb finally broke through today, it was back to the flats behind Johns Island. First area, had an audience, always seem to do well when someone is watching. Nailed a 23 inch, 5 spot Red, guest of honor at dinner.
Found a school of Black Drum sunning on the flat. Spent almost 2 hours trying to get one to hit. Even stooped to putting smell good juice on the plastic, this didn't work for the Drum, but working just off of a Mangrove edge a little 18 inch Snook decided to play. Definitely up to par, good little fighter. Not much at Hole in the Wall or Pine Island today. The bait is just starting to make a come back in the area.
Not a fun ride back to the landing, straight into the wind and white caps all the way. Starting to see a few more boats out fishing. Saw two today. With low participation by anglers there will be a bigger down turn in the Marine and Tackle industry. Too many retailers are already hurting.
